"The Contemporary Mariners"

6 Steps

In Samuel Taylor Coleridge's classic narrative poem, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," an old sailor is forced to roam the land seeking out individuals who must hear his ghostly tale. The poem concludes with the renowned aphorism, "He prayeth well, who loveth well both man and bird and beast," warning the Wedding Guest (and the reader) to appreciate, respect and love nature, and, ultimately, to be its steward. With this lesson in mind, this jog takes a look at contemporary environmental protection organizations, modern-day Ancient Mariners, dedicated to preserving, protecting and educating about our planet's wildlife and environment.
